how can I find out what speed my memory is lacking going into the bios?

memtest86 will tell you adjectives the information about your memory.

Check it out: http://www.memtest86.com/
yeah memtester is a perfect program i also use cpuz

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

this will tell u brand model and timming of the ram
individually i would get the free revision of everest .. i dunno about memtest thats a dos app for trialling the memory .... everest will tell u ddr500 pc4000 or watever it is ...
No existing test give you more information than simply first performance the case and looking at what it say on the memory.

If you want to get the right memory, the stick will, or should, enjoy speed in NS ( nano Seconds) and several other details.

Other than that, try the onboard start run option, dx diag, and see what that shows
Crucial system scanner wil communicate you what speed, the maximum you can put in and how tons empty slots within are.
Use Crucial's Memory Adviser from here: http://www.crucial.com/ Crucial will tell you what type of memory you can install. And use Belarc to register what's in side your PC's suitcase: http://belarc.com/free_download.html... Both are free.
check out

they will tell you what memory you involve and they can sell it too you they also convey u how much memory each slot within comp can handle
